Our Story

Who we are

Community Minds (CM) is a not for profit community development organisation and registered charity based in south west Sydney. We work across a diverse range of sectors and stakeholders ranging from schools, community organisations, local councils to businesses.

Our team has extensive and broad experience in community building and development with over 80 years experience combined.

We apply a strengths and asset-based community development approach inspiring and instigating citizen-driven efforts and community led initiatives.

How it started

Initially Community Minds started off as a consultancy business in 2014. It was incorporated in 2015 with the vision of broadening the scope and influence of what CM set out to achieve.

The growth of Community Minds was accelerated with the introduction and rollout of Community Minds programs in 2018, namely Community Minded Kids (CMK), our flagship program, gaining much interest in both the community and education sectors.

Our aim

Ultimately at Community Minds, we challenge deficit based thinking and traditional community development models by providing practical tools and approaches based on cultivating assets and opportunities, as opposed to focusing on deficiencies and problems. Change in perceptions, the ‘mind’, needs to happen first before we change or influence our external environment.

Building the capacity and of communities and inspiring community minded thinking and actions is our main purpose helping us bring to life our vision of creating more connected, inclusive and resourceful communities.

Our Journey

Community Minds was incorporated in 2015. In 2023 we became a company limited by guarantee, growing our community footprint across Australia and beyond.
